Single Molecule Techniques Workshop
From April 2–4, 2025, our PhD students took part in an intensive and hands-on workshop at the École Normale Supérieure – Université PSL in Paris. The focus was on single molecule techniques, with practical sessions on magnetic capture and TIRF microscopy, using participants’ own samples. The workshop was preceded by a series of six online lectures, which provided the theoretical foundation and prepared students for the practical sessions.
It was a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience, exchange ideas, and develop valuable new skills for their research.
A big thank you to Terence Strick and his team for organizing and hosting such an inspiring and well-structured training!
2nd Annual Meeting
The meeting took place at the Department of Biology, École Normale Supérieure in Paris, France, March 31 and April 1, 2025.
Our PhD students shared exciting updates on their research, secondment experiences, and future plans. The meeting was full of curiosity, insightful discussions, and valuable exchange of ideas. We look forward to seeing how each project evolves over the coming year.

Single Molecule Techniques Online Sessions
We are excited to announce the launch of an Online Module designed to prepare participants for the upcoming Paris Workshop on Single Molecule Techniques. This module will feature a series of lectures delivered by leading experts in the field, providing foundational knowledge and advanced insights to enhance your experience during the workshop.
The module includes six lectures covering various aspects of single molecule techniques, from theory to practical applications. All lectures will be held online.
- Introduction to Single Molecule Techniques, Terence Strick (CNRS)
- Twisting and Stretching DNA: Techniques and Applications, Terence Strick (CNRS)
- Single Molecular FRET: Theory and Techniques, Mark Dillingham (UOB)
- Single Molecule Studies Using Nanofluidic Channels, Fredrik Westerlund (CUT)
- Data Analysis and Interpretation in Single Molecule Experiments, Terence Strick (CNRS)
- Single Molecule Imaging in Cells: Localization, Counting, and Tracking, Stephan Uphoff (OXF)
Scientific animation workshop at WDKA
As a follow-up to the first creative session during our Amsterdam meeting March 2024, a group of our PhD students took part in a collaborative workshop with students from the Willem de Kooning Academy (WdKA). The aim was to turn scientific ideas into engaging 30-second animations, with our researchers developing the scripts and art students bringing them to life through animation. The first edition of this elective course took place from January 6–13, 2025, at the Art Academy in Rotterdam, with a script writing session held in December. It was a great opportunity for our researchers to explore creative science communication and collaborate across disciplines. 👉 You can view the first results of this workshop here. A second opportunity to participate in this course will be offered next year — stay tuned for more information! |

First Secondments Completed – Updates on Results Coming Soon!
Our young researchers are now in the active phase of their projects and have already completed several successful secondments. Recently, Erasmus MC hosted a large group of our young researchers, and the research work and results have been truly exciting. The exchange of knowledge and collaboration across different institutions has proven to be a valuable experience for everyone involved. We will continue to provide updates here as the project progresses. Stay tuned for more!

Wet-lab physical workshop for Biophysical approaches
We have organized 3-day intensive workshop was a success, featuring:
- Lab-Centric Practical Sessions: Participants enhanced their skills through hands-on laboratory work.
- Science and Society: Collaboration with Art Academy: This block showcased projects with the Art Academy, highlighting the fusion of science and art.
- Science and Society: Ethics in Science: Attendees explored the ethical dimensions of scientific research and its societal impact.
The workshop offered a rich blend of practical experience and discussions on the broader implications of science.
1st Annual Meeting co-located with Midterm Review Meeting
We have also a scientific session on the first day of the meeting, where the ongoing results were presented and discussed.

Online sessions
Physical workshop in Leiden UMC on structural biology
Workshop on Hybrid Structural Biology in Leiden on November 28-29, 2024. In the original Project description, this was planned as an online workshop, but we decided it would be better for the students to meet each other already in person, so we organized a physical, 2-day workshop at LUMC. The workshop was preceded by an online session on November 6, 2023 to prepare, and a concluding online discussion session on December 11, 2023.

Kick-Off Meeting
The RepState kick-off meeting took place in Rotterdam on February 6-7 2023 with a great success, under the coordination of the ErasmusMC. All partner institutions participated in the meeting.
